Just before the autumn half term Preston Teaching School Alliance welcomed twenty School Direct secondary trainees to an ICT and VLE Conference.

The conference was held at Archbishop Temple School, an outstanding secondary school in Preston that has deployed the use of iPads throughout the school. Each child has access to an iPad to aid their learning.

The conference was delivered by Paul Cairns, Assistant Headteacher at Archbishop Temple School, Helen Catterall, Head of IT and Computing at Archbishop Temple School and Richard McGee, Head of Science at Archbishop Temple School.

Trainees attended five invaluable sessions; Why use ICT in schools?, E-safety, Using Mobile Devices as an Effective Tool for Assessment, An Introduction to VLEs and Embedding New Technologies Into Lessons.

Trainees came away from the day understanding the value of IT in learning in school, having learned about useful software to use in class, learned some strategies to engage learners through the use of IT and how to embed VLE's into Teaching and Learning.
